Ulyanovsk factory Vestas Manufacturing Rus has shipped 100th wind turbine blade kit since launch of the factory. Innovative equipment components will be shipped to the wind farm site in the Astrakhan region. The project partners are Vestas, RUSNANO and Ulyanovsk region Investors Consortium the part of which is Ulyanovsk nanocenter ULNANOTECH.
Since the start of 2019 the factory, which was the first to organize innovative product manufacturing, has delivered 300 composite blades to the foreign and Russian wind farm sites.
100 Vestas wind turbines with a total capacity of about 400 MW were built using these components.
Low-carbon generation of this capacity allows annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 380 thousand tons compared to emissions from traditional generation. Clean electricity generated by wind farms with Ulyanovsk blades will cover the consumption of 340 thousand average households.
Thanks to the Ulyanovsk region government support and unique safety measures, the production of blades did not stop even in the spring of 2020, during the most difficult period of the pandemic.
Vestas Manufacturing Rus annually increases its output – in 2020 it grew by 40%. Wind turbines with blades from Ulyanovsk have been installed at wind farms of the Wind Energy Development Fund (established on parity basis between RUSNANO and Fortum) in the Rostov region and Kalmykia as part of the Vestas integrated wind farm. It is planned to deliver blades to the Fund’s sites in the Astrakhan and Rostov regions in 2021.

We are confident that our blades will meet the increased requirements for equipment localization under the second support program in Russia – at the next stage, in addition to fiberglass, we will use pultrusion profiles, resins and other components manufactured in Russia”, says Kimal Yusupov, General Director, Vestas Manufacturing Rus.
