Vestas Manufacturing Rus Factory (project participants: nanocenter ULNANOTECH, Vestas, RUSNANO and Ulyanovsk Region Investor Consortium) donated highly demanded personal protective equipment from its stockpiles to the Perinatal Center (State Healthcare Institution “City Clinical Hospital No. 1”) in Ulyanovsk. Since April 9, the perinatal center, according to the decision of the Ministry of Health of the Ulyanovsk region, accepts only pregnant women with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19.
The wind energy company supplied over 1,000 protective suits, 100 special glasses and 100 respirators to the Ulyanovsk medical facility. This extra personal protective equipment helped to quickly prepare the medical facility to receive the first obstetric patients and protect medical personnel who do not stop working in difficult conditions of the pandemic. The issue of increasing such aid is being considered.
Kimal Yusupov, General Director of Vestas Manufacturing Rus: “The production process of manufacturing wind turbine blades requires the mandatory use of personal protective equipment — protective suits, respirators, glasses. Thanks to sufficient stockpiles, we are able not only to provide full protection to our employees, but also supply all possible aids to the region’s health system to address the growing threat of the coronavirus pandemic. Our company employs more than 400 employees - residents of the Ulyanovsk region, and this decision seems obvious to us.”
Alisher Kalanov, head of RUSNANO investment division, said: “We believe it is normal for businesses to be socially responsible: to do everything possible in the current epidemiological situation to preserve the health of children and their mothers and ensure the safety of medical personnel who are currently at high risk. In other regions, our wind energy companies are also planning to purchase personal protective equipment and donate it to medical institutions.”
Joint venture “Vestas Manufacturing Rus” was launched in December 2018. The company produces wind turbine composite blades unparalleled in Russia. The production is sited in the territory of aviation cluster in Ulyanovsk. The blades are designed for wind turbines with 3.4 MW to 4.2 MW capacity. By 2021, the annual output will reach 500 wind turbine blades. The volume of investments amounted to more than 2 billion rubles, 400 jobs were created. The company's participants are Vestas, RUSNANO, and the Ulyanovsk Region Investor Consortium, the part of which is Ulyanovsk nanocenter ULNANOTECH.
